CHARACTER
Name: Julie Grigio
Canon: Warm Bodies
Age: 16
Demigod/Hunter/Satyr/Nymph: Post-Ragnarok Soul Shard of Sif
Demigod abilities: At present, mild chlorokinesis. She can grow a wicked herb garden, bring small dying plants back to life and has a constant need to just be outside in nature, drawing plants and watching them grow. Her abilities, hopefully, be growing as she learns about what she can do and will become useful in a fight.
Personality: She's a spitfire of a girl. She's leans towards being sarcastic, and is considered sharp witted with a brilliant sense of humor. She's also been hardened by what she's seen and survived growing up. She's a positive realist. Her mother's departure and subsequent death has forced her to grow up at an early age and has hardened her some in regards to the suddenly rocky relationship between her father and herself.
Colonel Grigio became a cold, distant man who ignores his emotions and spends his nights trying to drink them away and this is part of what's hardened her. She understands what made him the way he is, what with his wife up and leaving when the stresses of military life got to be too much for someone as free spirited as her. Julie gets that finding out later that his wife died really did a hell of a number on him. It doesn't mean she likes it at all, nor does she agree with. She wants the father who spent an hour hauling buckets of water up to the top of a run down water slide just so she can have a ten second ride and the man who flat out refused to let a plant his wife stopped tending to die in his living room. But her father has become exceptionally militant in his behaviors and Julie rebels against it frequently in the way she dresses and her attitude in general.
She can be defiant in the face of what she deems unfair rules, something her father dislikes entirely. It's not a negative attitude, either. It's just Julie being Julie. She really doesn't like that he's shut down and she feels like he's trying to shut her down, too. That's the last thing she wants.
She handles relationships in her own way, and the bonds she normally forms are very strong and long lasting, even if the start was rocky. Take for example her friendship with Nora. She met Nora after her then-boyfriend admitted to cheating on her with the girl and while this would drive most people to hate someone for possibly forever, it was a few weeks later that the girls bonded and eventually became best friends.
Julie also doesn't like to give up on people unless she sees no other option. She and Perry mended their relationship to a degree but Perry, another military child, lost his father during a deployment and that changed him. A guy who was once as care-free as Julie became taciturn and a bit dour. A Colonel Grigio 2.0. This caused enough of a strain on his and Julie's relationship, along with the aforementioned infidelity that she and Perry broke up just before he shipped off to boot camp.
She's a vibrant girl who goes for what she wants with passion and fire. She doesn't like letting anything stop her from it, either. This doesn't mean she's ruthless. She tries to do things without harming others, believing we were all put on this earth to help each other.
She has the capability to see beauty in things. A random patch of wildflowers growing next to someone's house brings her joy. She preserves moments with her friends in pictures from an old Polaroid camera or a drawing and she writes down everything because to her, it's important to remember what you see because you may never see it again. This attitude stems from being a military child. She's moved often enough to understand that people come and go and forgetting them is a sin to her.
AU History:
Julie Grigio was born in Seattle, Washington, to John Grigio and his wife, Audrey. She was immediately the light of her fathers life and the apple of her mothers eye. Being a military family meant they moved often, and wherever they went, Julie and her family made sure to make it a home. They filled houses with warm memories, even when her father was deployed and they decided to not have any more children. Julie was all they needed.
But then, after a very rough and uncertain move from Italy back to the states and a deployment shortly after, Julie's mother decided she didn't want to be a part of things anymore. So she left when Julie was eight.
This shattered both Julie and her father but, unlike her father, she kept going. She kept living and doing what kids did best. Playing. Finding happiness everywhere. Unfortunately her father didn't do as well and Julie found herself having to grow up fast.
A year after her mother left, Julie received word that her mother had passed away. Julie was 11. This put a rift of sorts between herself and her father, the general becoming hardened and emotionless, and Julie reacting in kind.
A move to Seattle didn't help things much, the only upside being it was the last move for a long time.
It was here that Julie's life started to change for the better. She found steady friends in a girl named Nora Greene and a guy named Perry Kelvin. For years, the three of them were inseparable. To the point where, at age 15, Julie and Perry (seventeen at the time) started dating.
Life was beautiful for a few months, but then her father had to deploy again. She'd gotten so used to him being around, strict and emotionless as he was, that his departure triggered what she'd later learn were memories of her past life as Sif.
She started dreaming of large, elaborate and elegant cities that she felt were familiar but knew she'd never seen before. She dreamed of walking long halls with people who felt important to her. A man with no eye, a woman who could turn into a falcon and a younger man who she felt loved her and she loved him in return.
This also added to her need to be outside, in part of nature. She felt a stronger connection to the world around her, especially the plants, and started spending a lot of time drawing trees and trying to start her own garden in her back yard. It was successful, which is surprising considering the state of constant sogginess that is Washington. (Believe me. the mun has tried. it's not that easy.)
Perry eventually left for Basic Training following the death of his father (and a moment of infidelity with Nora that Julie doesn't want to talk about ever) and Julie began spending time at a coffee house in Pikes Market. She hoped the change in scenery would help with what she assumed were stress dreams, but it didn't help much.
The coffee house was where she befriended a slightly older boy who went simply by R who never said a word. Not because he couldn't, but because he chose not to. Despite this, and probably due in no small part to Julie's stubbornness, a bond was formed between the pair through handwritten notes passed between the pair during R's shifts at the coffee shop and eventually, Julie found herself with a small crush.
Nothing was going to come of it, however, because one day on her way home, Julie was stopped by a regal and somewhat mean looking woman who called herself Hera. It took a few displays of Hera's powers before Julie believed she really was who she said she was. When Hera told Julie she was the soul-shard reincarnation of Sif, Julie believed her then, too. It really did explain a lot about Julie's dreams.
She was given plane tickets to get her to New York and a handful of cash to get her to
camp via taxi and Hera promised to tell her father where she was (though Julie doubts Hera will actually follow through with it).

Iris Message:
[Hello, Campers! There's a blonde girl with vibrant blue eyes, smiling through the mist. She seems so excited that this worked.]
Oh, this is just too cool. Hi! [A small wave and then her fingers run through her wavy hair.]
I'm Julie. I'm from Seattle and... [She looks past the mist for a moment, listening to someone off-screen.] I should? [She considers something, nodding once.] Alright. Sure, I can do that. For anyone else that'd find this information useful or whatever...
[Meaning anyone that'd recognize the name;] I just learned recently that I'm the soul-shard reincarnation of Sif. Looking forward to meeting you all!
[Another wave and the IM vanishes. Greet your new camp-mate, kids.]
Third Person Log:
[So, here she was. Camp Halfblood. Her new home. She's lived in several new homes already. China. France. Italy. Several places in the states. Her fathers job kept them on their toes, but she'd always had time to prepare for this sort of thing. Weeks to pack, to dejunk her stuff.
She had only a couple days notice before she had to get here.
She sat on the porch of Demeter's cabin, enjoying the scents of the flowers around her. Her sketch pad sat on her knees, a small shoe-shaped pencil case sat beside her. She sketched carefully, small details added and scrutinized and erased quickly. It's clear what she's drawing is important.
Occasionally, she'll glance up at her new surroundings. There's a soft smile on her face as she does so.
This place isn't half bad, so far. There are people here who are willing to help explain her dreams and help her expand her abilities and there are people here who want to help her remember her former self. And there are others like her, post-Ragnarok Soul Shards of former Norse Gods.
She smiles as she thinks about this, turning her attention to her sketch again.
She can see herself making Camp Halfblood home and this thought makes her very happy, indeed.]
